One World Subsidy Program
The One World program has the ability to assist participants with the cost of their group contribution where there is a situation of financial need. While our resources are limited, we are committed to making One World accessible to people for whom the cost would otherwise be prohibitive. At the same time, we feel that the process of acquiring the necessary funds for one’s travel is an important part of the One World experience and helps to deepen a participant’s sense of commitment and investment in their experience. While realizing that people from some backgrounds or communities will generally not have the same access to resources as those from more privileged backgrounds, we feel that all participants must make every reasonable effort to take responsibility for securing the money needed for their trip.
Generally, financial assistance from One World will take the form of a non-interest loan (although we will consider partial or full subsidies depending on an individual’s circumstances). Terms for re-payment are flexible and will be determined by your specific financial circumstances.
A participant can have one third of their loan written off for each year of unpaid work they do following their One World experience. For example, this unpaid work might be living at a Catholic Worker or L’Arche community. If a participant does three years of unpaid work following their One World trip, their entire loan will be forgiven.
